Here we go

in Getting Started,Small Business

twtlogo-mediumFor those of you who have followed me (Rhi B.) from the first incarnation of The Word Trade, you already know what’s going on: we’re evolving.

As you can see, I’ve kept my promise to update our logo (though I have the itch to tinker with it some more), move to WordPress.org and buy into the Thesis theme. I’ve also begun teaching myself the Adobe CS4 Premium software package and delved deeper into digital photography. (Can you scream “learning curve” for me one time? Thanks!)

Plus, when I learned my good friends Beth and Mattie (who happen to be mother and daughter) also wanted to trade words for dollars, we began expanding the dream and pushing for change a little sooner than I thought it would come. Right now we’re waiting on their new computer to arrive and getting ready for some serious training sessions– all while being offered actual paying jobs. Amazing!

On top of everything else, I’m still not out of school– graduation is 47 days away– and I’m juggling several freelance writing assignments in addition to my internship at Creative Loafing. (No, I don’t remember how to relax.)

The Great News:

We’ve got a lot of exciting ideas to share with you, so please bear with us while we get organized. As we are– and our company is– this site is evolving at a rapid pace. The official launch date is May 18. Until then, you can follow our updates on Twitter.

We thank you for your patience while we figure out what we’re doing, push forward and turn our infant company into something that will not only allow us to trade words for dollars, but will allow us to reach out to our communities– in Charlotte, N.C., Atlanta, Ga., and online.

We hope to help other small business owners create a Web presence they can be proud of through social media assistance, Web copy and ghost written e-newsletters and blog posts. We can also help them procure printed materials like business cards, brochures and more. For individuals, we will have a resume service we can’t wait to tell you about. And, for those business owners who could benefit from our writing, editing and marketing skills but who might not have the extra funds in their budget, we’re also willing to trade ad space and even business services.

Like I said, there’s a lot of good news coming your way from The Word Trade. But, for now, I better hit the books.
